JCI Corp.'s history began with the development and successful testing of the TekYo technology (Japanese 適応 for “adaptation”). This technology is based on a highly efficient use of friction modifiers and other additive components. The TekYo technology allows motor oil to adapt its properties depending on the operating mode and conditions, while at the same time providing maximum engine protection. Subsequently, the company registered the official trade name for this technology, ADAPTEC, which is still being used today.

Soon after that, the company decided to market its own motor oil brand under the name of TAKAYAMA. The brand was named in honour of the hometown of the leading developer of the TekYo (ADAPTEC) technology, Mr. Nomura Kaito, located in Gifu. As its first priority areas for initial expansion, the company chose to focus on Russia, the CIS countries, Asia, and the Middle East.
This had to do with the fact that the prospects for a new player offering high-quality products were significantly higher in those markets than in the long-established Japanese market, which, in turn, would enable accelerated growth. At the same time, given the company's Japanese origins, there is a major focus on aligning TAKAYAMA products to the specific needs and technologies of Japanese auto manufacturers. The company’s basic line of motor oils for the wider market is called TAKAYAMA Adaptec.

Today, JCI Corporation offers a wide range of oils and coolants for light-duty and commercial vehicles. Its manufacturing is organized to respond most quickly and with the highest precision and flexibility to the evolving market needs in its key sales regions and minimize country-specific, macroeconomic and logistical risks, while embracing all advantages of localization. Currently, our products are manufactured at several state-of-the-art facilities by our partners’ blending plants, in line with the most stringent quality standards and under the supervision of our specialists. Several of our developments for the TAKAYAMA Paotec flagship line of synthetic motor oils have been made in collaboration with the British company Infineum, a leader and one of the world's major manufacturers of high-tech additives.
